Colour Combos Galore 202 Absolute Delight Layout

Okay girls once this one's up I'll just have last week's combo to show you & we'll be all up to date - phew!  Feels good!!
Just about the only thing that feels good right now I might add...am full of flu with a cough like an old diesel engine firing up - oops!  Off to the doctor in a couple of hours & hope he can sort me out!!

This combo was very fresh & I prefer more neutral, chalky, pastel-tones so I kept the red & green for the embellishments & went with the neutral (grey) for the backing cardstock, avoiding a Christmassy feel.

I'm enjoying taking a break from sketches & coming up with my own original layout designs.
I've noticed that most of the layouts I admire by others are those that don't follow a typical design & also those that have interesting title placements so I am trying to push myself "out of the box" with those too.
The designer's challenge was to use wood-grain somewhere on our layout & I couldn't for the life of me find any in my stash in the right shades, so I doodled my own!

I found Lily Bee papers that matched (that little bit at the top left) & Jillibean soup butterfly sugar picks.  They are so cute I just wanted to eat them (wouldn't have done my cough any good LOL).

Finally I'm using up these BEAUTIFUL Maya Road velvet flowers.  Love mixing them in with Prima ones for a change & tucked in a piece of misted doily there for the paler green shade.
Webster's Pages 12 inch alpha sheets are GREAT for a big variety of colours on one sheet (4) and different sizes - perfect - some little ones (but not too tiny...) and some bigger ones (but not too big) so they are JUST RIGHT :)

I mixed up an eclectic assortment from my stash, including a tiny CD that came free with a magazine.  Significant here as my son Jack is a singer, always in the school musicals & goes for vocal training weekly.

Found the perfect My Mind's Eye title card, just went over the pale faux-stitching printing around the edge, with my black journaling pen, to tie in with the doodling & give it a bit more presence.
Those "lekker" swirls are K & Co. (lekker is South African slang for...cool?!).
Used 3 diffferent punches for my grounding strip, layered over with Prima lace...yummmmmm...

A Webster's resin rose you see there, and a Sassafras star flower sticker.
The black flower you see under the netting is a rub-on.
I added a few black touches right at the end, to tie in with my wood-grain doodling.
The netting is actually the flimsy gauze I usually mist but I don't own any red mist
(always reminds me of a crime scene when I see it used on a page!)
so I had to paint it instead - and voila!...a totally different effect - rigid & manly - the paint firms it up & gives it more substance so there was a lesson learnt :)

Did you check your SC kits? They have a thing for wood grain, I'm sure there was something in one of the kits you got while you were a subscriber!

Every single piece of your lovely work has all of the following, great colors, great texture, fun element, and stunning photos, what a treat!

Thanks for your tips on picaso, I think I've tried and it doesn't work well with Mac, or was it me, I admit that I have no patient to figure things out! : (
But i will definitely give it another try!

I just love every element and those photos are perfect.
And yep, I love to work with sketches but somehow I usually end up with my own design.....
And I hope you feel better. I missed out on about 3 hours sleep last night through bouts of coughing but I have woken up this morning feeling the best I have in a week. Hopefully you will be on the mend soon too.
I would say rest up but really, when can a Mum do that?
