He's my no. 1 {The Colour Room Palette 50 /The Studio Challenges March 20th Sketch Challenge}

It was a public holiday here on Monday {Human Rights Day} & as a result I have been playing "catch-up" all week!  I keep thinking it's a day earlier than it really is & then realising that I had more to do on the day than I had originally thought!  Anyway, here is my take on this week's blue palette over at The Colour Room.

I used the latest sketch up at The Studio Challenges, which appealed in it's simplicity, and I thought the stripes would lend to the manly theme.

I was inspired by the striped background to use this striped paper from American Crafts {Blue Skies} and used the opportunity to try a technique I've seen around quite a bit lately - using masking tape & washi tape, just sticking & tearing it, overlapping & layering it slightly.

I placed a 1" strip down either side of the dark blue matt, but it looked too clompy, so I tore it (LOVE how it came out!) then used the other side of the torn strips (the halfs which I had torn off) & adhered them to the edge of the page on either side...pretty nifty I thought :)

There was a twist to the sketch challenge, and that was to use "ruffles" somewhere on your project.  I used the white crepe paper ruffle from my recent Studio Calico kit {My mind's Eye} and added the little "Fine & Dandy" bird from the MME bling packaging too.  The rosette is actually TWO Studio Calico rub-ons rubbed one over the other & the stitching is faux stitching using (one of my many as they take it in turns to be temperamental!) white gelpen {because I am still waiting for my sewing station to be built so to sew is a bit of a hassle right now as my studio is too small to fit my machine into}(to have it permanently set up).

Thank you for looking & for all your kind comments on my recent posts.

***See previous post for my BIRTHDAY RAK & please note that you do not have to do a new post on your scrap-space to qualify if you already have a photo of it anywhere on the internet, or a post about it along with a photo - just add the link to the comments section or e mail me a photo to be in to win!***

This is such a great male page and I like how you didn't over the do the ruffle just the right amount. I like that you tried the masking tape and the other tape, oops forgot what you called it. What is the other tape exactly???? Anyway you've done a very lovely blokes page.
