"Finals Ball" Mixed Media Layout Tutorial - Scrap Around The World {using 3rd Eye Stamps}

Here's my layout for Scrap Around The World this month.

I decided to do a "TUTORIAL" of sorts for you...

As I was "in the process" I took photos every 30 minutes.

It takes me 2 hours on average to complete a page like this.

I thought it may be interesting for you to see.

I try not to let myself spend longer than 2 hours on a page,
although of course sometimes I can spend up to 4 hours!

--------------------------------

These days I measure my progress in half hourly
intervals to make sure that I am on track.

I like to have an established background after 30 minutes,
then spend another 30 minutes adding some depth to it.

By one hour my background work must be complete
& I move on to the photo work, layering & embellishing.

I give myself an hour for that so I like to have my title & basic
embellishments in place at 1 hour 30 mins then I have the last
30 minutes to finalise my design & add my finishing touches.

----------------------------------------

I know there are many people who can put together stunning layouts
faster than this but I've accepted that this is the best I can do
& have cut my time in half over the last few years so I am happy
with my process & I enjoy putting my pages together at this pace.

How about you?  How long does it take you from start to finish?

Love this project .. and all your thoughts on time. You are way ahead of me on the time factor. I'm a slow scrapper for sure .. so usually 3 to 4 hours on a layout unless it's really simple. However, I am up and down throughout, so maybe I don't credit myself the interruptions! LOL Hope you have a great weekend!

Oh my goodness Helen, you're quick!! he he you know my creative process takes like forever but that's the way I am and I never measure the time when I'm creating. Really neat to see how you put together this page, thanks a bunch sweetie! xoxo

Haven't been here for a while and I now know why you haven't shown up in my feed. Although I hadn't really picked up on that either as some things have been happening here that have kept me distracted. Anyway, I absolutely love this page and your tutorial Helen but , boy!, you are quick. Sometimes my cards, etc. come together really quickly but other times I could have them on my desk for days before I actually get them finished. Luckily I usually do have more than one item on the go at the same time so it isn't actually a problem but I'm really impressed with the way you work. Amazing!! As are your creations. Love all the details and the textures are gorgeous!! Beautiful work as always!!! ox

You know, I have never tracked myself...I add wet layers and then wander off for an hour or two until they dry...it's my butterfly method. I never use a heat gun except when I use embossing powder...It's super cool to see your process though, very awesome!

I would still love to see you in action and go to a class presented by you....so jealous to see that the people in Cape Town will be getting to know you and your techniques up close and personal.

This was very fun and exciting to see: how that awesome and layered page has born.
I think it takes about 1-2 hours to do a layout - depends on how I create my background. If I use any gesso, or modeling paste etc. it takes so much longer, as I don't own a heat gun (that is the next thing to buy). :)
