'Island Life'Layout - Purple Pumpkin - February Sketch

Hello there & welcome to a new sketch up on the Purple Pumpkin blog
today!  As you can see (from the title being sideways!!) I turned the
sketch to suit my photo (seeing as it was already printed out and
my computer is BROKEN AGAIN so I can't print any more photos!
Grrrrrr!!!!!)

A nice simple sketch with lots of scope!

I used paper from 2009!  Go me!!  The Purple Pumpkin goodies
on this page are the fabric button, lace flower, satin flower, doily,
resin rose & tickets.  All available in store HERE.

I started by using my new 6" chevron stencil from The Crafter's Workshop
together with my Hard Molding Paste from Golden.  I love the texture/3D
effect of this very thick, strong  paste & it dries quickly if you use
an embossing/heat gun.  Then I sprayed on my mists along with several
squirts of water, and also shook the mists on from the uptake wand
(by unscrewing the top & flicking it on with the 'straw' to create the
bigger blobs) then holding my page upright to create the drips.

Supplies List for 'Island Style''Layout

Base Paper - Fancy Pants (She Can Dance)
Hard Molding Paste - Golden
6"Chevron Stencil - The Crafter's Workshop
Mists - Lemon Zest & Sunshine - Tattered Angels
Piglet & Opaque White - Mr. Huey
Flowers, doily, fabric button & tickets - Purple Pumpkin
Die-cuts - K & Co.
Craft Doilies - Maya Road
Ornate Bling - Bindis
Other bling - stash
Bling Lace - Prima
Pink Alphas - Webster's Pages
Black Alphas - Making Memories

Inspiration Link-Up!  For pretty work using different mediums see Iris's blog HERE.

Thrifty tips!  1.  Get through your stash of older papers by using the 'B' sides', which are always much more subtle, then adding some mediums on top if desired.

2.  If you can't splash out on a Cameo or other intricate die-cutting machine look for precut die-cuts like the ones I used on this (from K & Co) to achieve the same effect {very trendy right now!}

3.  Make your mists go further by spraying them onto your page then immediately spraying water on top to dilute them further - this creates 'pools'of different concentrations, which is another very popular 'watercolour'look right now.http://purplepumpkincrafts.blogspot.com/

4.  My ornate bling/brads are actually 'bindi's' I bought from an Indian/Hindu store here & the pink bling dots you see are cut from a 'mobile phone' bling sheet also bought locally.  These generics work just fine & save on postage if you live somewhere without access to many scrappy supplies.

5.  For the popular 'side-strips' I have on my layout (often seen too, at the top and/or bottom of layouts) they only need to be narrow so often you can cut your offcut (or in my case the tickets) in half down the length, thus using very little to great effect!

Time to complete!  2 hours

Purple Pumpkin runs a sketch challenge monthly - with TWO prize packs
on offer each month - one for a Design Team voted winner and one drawn
at random.  All winners and features are displayed on the blog aswell,
so enter if you can!  You have the entire month!!

Seriously gorgeous layout, Helen! I love the textured template work on the background (I so wish I had got this template as a 6x6, rather than the larger patterned 12x12!!) as well as all your great tips. I wish I could create layouts in 2 hours!!

Lovely take on the sketch, the textures paste and misting gives it some wonderful detail and I like how you've added the ticket pieces down the side.
