'Bruvvies' Layout - Purple Pumpkin - Manor House Flowers

Hello Scrappy Folk!  Hope you are well!!  I am still playing catch up
from when I went away overseas for a month and was offline most
of that time (thanks to ridiculously prohibitive mobile phone connection
rates).  I'm working through everything I prepared in advance & that
got posted on the blogs I work for, making sure I don't forget to get it
up here too!  Here is one that went up at Purple Pumpkin recently HERE.

I created this layout with my son's recent bullying incident in mind.
He rose to the occasion when his younger brother was being victimised
and that is what led to his downfall at his previous school.  I was so
proud of him standing up for his brother, as well as for what is right!
It just shows that, despite their love/hate relationship, when it comes
down to the wire, he knows where his loyalties lie & how to behave.

I used some Purple Pumpkin doilies, which I inked with dark brown ink to
grunge them up a bit.  I also used 4 fabric buttons & a
'round' flower that I mounted onto a Purple Pumpkin doily
die-cut circle, to create my own unique embellishment.

I painted the central area of my layout with gesso before I began
placing my elements -  I love the vignette effect that it created.
I used an old credit card instead of a paint brush.  Cheaper, less
clean up & more effective.  I clustered the fabric buttons & doilies
together with some metal findings, flowers and die-cuts, pushing
the buttons under some of the items to create different, interesting
 partial circle shapes too.

See the punched strip across the bottom of the photo?  That is
actually ALSO from Purple Pumpkin - It's a film strip die-cut that
I cut up and used as a punched strip instead.  I added some
Burnt Sienna and Dark Brown ink to it for a more 3D look.

this is a beautiful picture and I love that you dedicated a LO to this bond and to them. As adults we see how important and brave is what your son did and he deserves so much credit for his actions. You should be proud of them for being such amazing boys as I'm sure you are. I love the texture on this layout fabulous. Love the LO!!

Gorgeous, rich, lovely texture and detail. Beautiful page and yes, families have a way of closing ranks and adopting protective mode when one of their own is threatened, and that's just the way it should be. Great photo of your boys. Oh, and your "Paris" photo is on its way. xx

Gorgeous photograph of your two boys Helen, and it is amazing how sibling rivalry can subside at the times that are most important. I adore your work ... and the stories behind each piece.

What a beautiful composition Helen. Great mix of textures and layers.

P/s: They were certainly very brotherly when I met them. That's the way guys are!

You're right- brothers (and all siblings) should stand by eachother no matter what. Good for you for raising boys who know this!!

Love your masculine layout- the texture is awesome!

All your lovely items you used, described so lovingly! It's nice to have them pointed out which such nice flow to a page as sometimes the beautiful of the individual item is lost when the whole is so pretty!

Glad your boys stick up for one another! Stupid school stuff, I tell ya. It won't matter a fig once they get to college.

I LOVE the way you let just the edges of the PP show under the gesso--it looks so rich and dramatic.

Kudos to your son for being brave and standing up to the bullies. I hope that his doing the right thing made an impression on the people at his old school. I know he changed schools anyway, so it must not have turned out very well, but I hope that at least one person at the old school learned something valuable. One can always hope...

I'm glad that your boys are so loyal to each other--brothers to the end!
