Hi there everyone! I created 2 layouts for My Creative Scrapbook
using their October Mixed Media Kit so I'm here today to show you
the first one. I used the lovely Webster's Pages Park Drive papers
available in the Limited Edition Kit, which I also got to work with.
One of the purposes of the Mixed Media team at My
Creative Scrapbook, as well as education (tutorials etc) is to
show subscribers how simple it is to combine the Mixed Media
kit with the other kits available there.
I used the grid stencil, supplied with the Mixed Media kit,
to create the dramatic black diamond backgound. Of course
I didn't waste ink covering the entire sheet of paper but rather
went just beyond where I had marked out the die-cut paper
edges, using a pencil.
I heavily inked the edges of the scallop paper with an ink pad,
using these terribly clever little gadgets from Tsukineko, once
you have tried these they will become an essential!
I always buy the ones that come WITH lids, so that once
you've inked them up you don't have to use up all the ink at
once and it will still be wet later.
Want to know how I tucked the photo in like that? It's easy!
What you do is mark the top and bottom {the width of the
photo} with a pencil on the design then 'fussy cut' along the
design with a craft knife. You'll notice I sanded the edges too.
Once you've opened it up like that you simply SLIDE the one
side of your photo in :)
I wanted the frame to look burnt so I achieved this
effect with several different colours of ink then I used
Liquid Pearls along the inside edge to pretty it up.
I raised the frame up slightly using pop-dots {3D glue-dots}.
I also inked up the Prima flower. My advice is to use inks for this.
You can use mists very successfully BUT be VERY careful not to
overheat the flower when you are drying it with your embossing
gun (or better still leave it to dry naturally) as the nylon in the
flower fabric burns and shrivels easily and that is NOT a good look!

I love the combination of different shapes--the diamond lattice in the background, the bracket box paper with the circle/petal print, etc. So much interest on this page! And, as always, you've shared great tips.
