Colour Combos Galore Design Team Call - Remember the 70's Layout

See I was telling the truth when I said I'd got a little behind on my Colour Combos Galore postings!
Never got around to showing you what I did for their Design Team call.
Went away the following week & that threw my postings off a bit {have been playing catch-up ever since}.

I ummed & aaahed & found this tricky, mainly because I wanted to use a vintage photo & don't own any, not ones that are vintagey enough for what I had in mind anyway.
I was rescued by an envelope of old photos saved from my father-in-law's desk when he emigrated from Zimbabwe.
These were all that were saved from photographs he destroyed.  He burnt them.  Hard to believe but true...

Straight off I knew I needed to use the blue as my backing cardstock.
It's such a retro colour after all & craft would have looked too trendy & red too garish.
I misted with the neutral shade though, using some retro-looking chipboard daisies as a mask then I splattered on some red paint using a flexi-brush to flick (the only way you'll achieve that really spontaneous result) - just cover the surrounding area in plastic or go outside to avoid a new design on your scrapbooking curtains from the over-spill!

I dug through my stash for all the retro-looking elements I could find then googled "vintage images" & found "Found in Mom's Basement" which is definitely one to bookmark for future use!
I used the "Farmer Jack" soup image because my dad-in-law's name is Jack
I saved 5 images, imported them into Picasa, created a "mosaic" collage with them sized 13 x 18cm then printed them out onto photo paper & cut them up individually.
Do this to save hours of unecessary time resizing in Photoshop, unless you need EXACT sizes of course...

I wanted to keep the red to a minimum {accent colour only} so punched out 2 red prints with my Giant Starburst punch & daisy grid design (both by Martha Stewart) & layered them on top of each other as a ground-line to tuck my photos & all my other design elements under.

I thought layering the journaling stickers on top of the old-fashioned type-writer sticker was a pretty cool idea!
Did you notice that my mum in law is "on special"???can't stop chuckling about that...
The clock hands were added as a very last finishing touch.
They are real clock hands that I bought a while ago in a hobby store.
I've had them in my drawer for years, waiting for the perfect page :)

See the word Gloria" above the old-fashioned telephone?  That's my mum-in-law's name!
Before adhering anything I go the photos into place then tucked in all the bits & bobs behind and to the side of them.
When I was happy with the approximate placement of all the elements I carefully slid them off my page then started recreating my layout permanently this time - always a bit tricky as I don't mark any positioning with pencil but just work from memory, all at the same time, so I can remember what it looked like!

It's a school holiday here tomorrow, due to the public holiday on Tuesday.
{National Women's Day}???
That's a strange one & rather sexist I'd say...how about a National Men's Day???
Couldn't live without my man that's for sure!
Right now I am sick.  SICK actually...{really sick...}
Full of flu, coughing like an old donkey...and all the while he is refilling my tea cup & bringing me a new glass of fizzy tablets every few hours.
LOVE that man!
