Once Upon A Sketch Has a new Reveal & Challenge Up!

Hi Peeps!  I'm back!!  I had a successful trip away, did what I had to do {will share some pics in a future post}, arrived back on Friday night, spent Saturday with my 3 kids that didn't come with {only took my eldest} & today I have been "sorting out the house" - yikes...a bit of a mess!!!  Pantry & fridge are back to their best now & things are restored to ship shape :)

Have SO MUCH to blog!   Prepare to be bombarded by me this week!!  I have stuff to share from all over the web!!! Let's start with ONCE UPON A SKETCH!

We have the highly talented Karola Witczak from Poland as our Guest Designer this month.  She is sponsoring us this month with her gorgeous new paper lines from her brand new company THE SCRAP CAKE.  Karola's work is stalk-worthy & I have her saved in "my secret list" (!!!) on my private blog - as she is definitely a great inspiration, so check her out if you are not already a fan of her modern-shabby style.

You WANT TO WIN THIS PRIZE so get cracking on your layout, card or altered-item/off-the-page project using this sketch, and DON'T FORGET the additional journaling criteria, to be eligible for judging.  PLEASE DO NOT LINK TO YOUR ENTIRE BLOG when you submit your entry on the OUAS blog using the Linkitz tool...just click on your POST TITLE in order to get ONLY THE RELEVANT POST to pop-up, otherwise scrolling down to find it can be tricky!

JULY 1st CHALLENGE
Journaling Criteria: Who is in the photo? Name the person in the photo and at least 1 fact about them. This can be personality, character, talent , achievement etc. but it must be at least 2 sentences long.

I veered off the sketch quite a bit here but you can see that it was definitely my inspiration.  I am so much more confident these days with regard to how to handle sketches :)

I loved how this one turned out.  I tackled it quite painstakingly but it was worth it.  I started off with a pretty floral mask & some yellow misting.

I love the light airy feel that a white background creates.  I am ready to sell off all my bright cardstock - seriously!  Just before I left for my trip I received my Webster's Sale Box {cost me a small fortune in postage & import duties but WOW, WOW, WOW, it was worth it for the endorphin rush :)

I love how the title works using such a variety of alphas, October Afternoon, Webster's & American Crafts.

I fussy-cut a lot of Webster's & added some hand-cut paper butterflies, some punched ones in 4 different sizes, plus a little trail of bling connecting some of the butterflies.

Loving that resin bloom from Webster's Pages!  I tried a different misting technique this time & love the results.  Instead of misting from the centre out I misted IN to the middle so that the edges of the misting are almost white to blend with the backing paper, then I covered up the heavy-misting with my paper for a really subtle effect.

I computer-printed my journaling onto photo-paper as usual, using a dark brown colour & a pretty font called Brush-Script.  Downloading free-fonts with Windows 7 is easy-peasy - just Google "Free Fonts" {there are many sites but Da Font is one of the best & I always seem to have success there} then extract all files (Windows 7 has an unzipper program so no need to buy Win-Zip any more) then double-click on the download (in "my downloads") & click INSTALL.  Really, you'll get the hang of it in 5 minutes...

I added teeny bling dots to act as bullet-points for my journaling strips.  The photo is an old school photo of my daughter Camryn & captures her sweetness {and her scruffiness too!}.

I used a sheet of Webster's Pages scalloped paper as my printed paper but shifted it right over to the left-hand side then added another big fussy-cut piece of WP to the top right in place of the sketch elements.

My love for Webster's Pages is growing in leaps & bounds!  Their stuff is just pure beauty!!  Fresh & modern yet it lends itself to shabby too - perfect for my style of modern-shabby...

Very lovely. I love that butterfly PP, it's what made me pay more attention to Webster's. I need to save this page so that when I'm ready to play with the stuff in my Webster's box I know what to do with it!
