Zambia {photos "for Africa"!}

We landed in the nation's capital, Lusaka & stayed the night there because we faced a long car journey to Mkushi in the morning.

I really can't tell you much about Lusaka because I only got to see it at night & very early in the morning, literally from & to the airport.
Dinner at The Mint Lounge was exceptional though - that I can tell you!  Far better than any restaurant I've found in Durban & as you can see the decor was state-of-the-art.

The next morning we stopped at Fringilla for breakfast.  We were the only people there but still we waited half an hour & then one of our sandwiches never arrived.
Judging from the others, it wasn't worth waiting for so we left ;-D

The TanZam railway (Tanzania - Zambia)
African skies are truly spectacular.

The power lines - they may look impressive but believe me they do not always work!
Our fuel stop in Kabwe.

Kabwe town.
Where we did NOT stay!

General transport.
Rain.

Grocery shopping (fortunately we didn't have to...)
Honey for sale - it was amazing!

Miles & miles of maize. (corn)
All bagged up & ready to go.

This one I am enlarging & printing onto a canvas, along with "rain".  I had to take most of these on AUTO because I didn't have a second to set up the shots.  Most were taken out the window whilst driving, and on dirt roads that was neither safe nor easy.  Still have another 600 photos to edit & a studio to tidy before I get cracking on some layouts.  Think I will finish up the editing process this weekend & print out my photos so that next week I can begin the creative process.

Enjoy your weekend!

Great photos. I've been to Lusaka and then to Livingstone and to the game park, but I don't think that counts as the type of "bush" you were in. I would love to go back. Your photos give me a taste. I can't believe you shot these on auto. They're fantastic!

Your photos are lovely Helen...and it is so nice to see how "dark" Africa looks north of South Africa.

Lovely shots, showcasing Africa.
It really is a fabulous continent to live on...at least most of the time.

I found your blog through my google alerts. Your pictures are beautiful and it is nice to see Zambia through someone else's eyes.

I live in the northern part of Zambia, and run an orphanage. You can see my experiences here:

Thanks for the interest girls! It was my first visit to Zambia & I was amazed at how fertile it was. Everything was so green & the skies were so BLUE! Kind of a cross between ZImbabwe (dry) & Durban (tropical. The Zambians are also lovely people - more conscientious than the Zulus, less productive than the Zimbabweans - again somewhere in between! I'm glad I went & Lusaka was really an anomaly - so 3rd world yet very comfortable in parts.
